KIND is a community for real friendship. The app is the way in. We only collect what we need to introduce you to people you might genuinely like — and we treat what you share with the care it deserves.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Thea Madsen, Holmbladsgade 42, 1. th, 2300 Copenhagen, Denmark. You can reach us at hi@kindfeelknown.org.
CVR: 46488393
What we collect
- Account: your first name, email address, and (if you sign in with Google) your basic Google profile.
- Onboarding answers: gender identity, age, nationality, area, life phase, children, work situation, interests, conversation styles, friendship preferences, and the free-text reflections you write. Some of this — such as health context or sensitive personal situations — is special category data under GDPR, and we treat it accordingly.
- Activity: matches you receive, your responses, and meetups you confirm.
- Payment: if you choose the Private plan, payment is handled by Stripe. KIND does not store your card details.
Why we collect it and on what legal basis
- Matching and introductions — the core purpose of KIND. Legal basis: your explicit consent, given when you sign up and complete onboarding.
- Account and communications — sending sign-in links, match notifications, and service emails. Legal basis: performance of our agreement with you.
- Improving KIND — analysing patterns in aggregate to improve matching quality. Legal basis: our legitimate interest, using anonymised or aggregated data only.
- Special category data (e.g. health context shared in the safety question) — processed only with your explicit consent, used solely to improve your match quality, and never shared with other members without your additional consent.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account data and onboarding answers for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records (e.g. payment records for up to 5 years under Danish bookkeeping law). Anonymised, aggregated data may be retained to improve matching.
How we use your data
Your onboarding answers are the heart of KIND — they are what makes a real introduction possible. We use them to match you, and to make KIND better at what it exists to do: help people find friendships that actually fit.
To run and grow KIND as a sustainable business, we may use data in the following ways:
- To match you with other members and improve match quality over time.
- To develop KIND's features, products, and services.
- To generate anonymised, aggregated insights — for example, patterns in what people look for in friendship — which may be used internally or shared with partners (such as companies, researchers, or organisations) in a form that cannot identify you.
- To communicate with you about your account, your matches, and KIND.
Who we share your data with
- Your match — only your first name and the matching note. Your reflections, free-text answers, and contact details are never shared without your explicit opt-in.
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Data is stored in the EU (Ireland). Supabase is GDPR-compliant.
- Stripe — payment processing for the Private plan. Stripe is GDPR-compliant and processes payment data under their own privacy policy.
- Partners such as companies, researchers, or organisations — only ever in anonymised, aggregated form that cannot identify you individually.
We do not sell your personal data — meaning we do not hand over your name, email, answers, or any information linked to you as an individual to third parties for their own use. We do not run ads. Any commercial use of data beyond what is described here will be anonymised and aggregated, and we will update this policy if that changes materially.
Cookies and analytics
KIND uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand how the app is used in aggregate. We do not use advertising cookies or track you across other websites. By using KIND, you consent to this minimal use of cookies. You can clear cookies at any time in your browser settings, though this will sign you out.
Your rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your data, withdraw your consent at any time, object to processing or request we restrict it, and receive your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hi@kindfeelknown.org. We will respond within 30 days.
Right to complain
If you believe we are handling your data unlawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with Datatilsynet, Denmark's data protection authority (datatilsynet.dk). We would always prefer to resolve any concern with you directly first — please reach out before filing a complaint and we will do our best to help.
